How to Share a Screenplay

Ensemble generates a unique link that gives anyone read access to your script. You can also protect that link with a password.

Sharing requires a free Ensemble account. Anonymous users cannot generate share links. If you have been writing without an account, sign up first - it only takes a moment.

Open the screenplay you want to share and click the Share button in the editor toolbar. This opens the Share modal.

Inside the modal, click Generate Link. Ensemble creates a unique URL for your script and displays it in a text field. Click the copy icon to copy it to your clipboard, then paste it wherever you need to send it.

Anyone who opens that link sees a read-only view of your screenplay. They do not need an Ensemble account. The script is rendered in proper screenplay format, so the reader sees exactly what you see in the editor.

Share links work well for agents, managers, or contest submissions. The reader gets a clean, formatted screenplay without downloading anything.

Password Protection

To control who can view your script even if the link gets forwarded, set a password. In the Share modal, enter a password before or after generating the link.

Anyone who opens the share link will need to enter the password before they can read the script.

You can change or remove the password at any time from the Share modal. Updating the password does not change the URL - the same link keeps working.

Share the password through a separate channel from the link. If you send both in the same email and that email is forwarded, the password provides no additional security.

Viewing Shared Scripts

The reader opens your share link in any modern browser. No Ensemble account needed. The screenplay renders in standard format with proper fonts, margins, and page breaks.

Shared scripts are read-only. Viewers cannot edit your screenplay or change anything. They can scroll through and read the whole thing.

If the script is password-protected, there is a password prompt before the screenplay loads. Once entered, the script stays accessible for the rest of their browser session.

Revoking Access

To stop sharing a script, open the Share modal and disable the share link. The previous URL will stop working immediately.

You can generate a new share link later if you change your mind. It will be a different URL, so old links stay dead.

Revoking a share link does not affect collaborators. If you have invited people to collaborate on the script, they will still have editing access through their invitation. To manage collaborators, see How Collaboration Works.
