Terms of Service

Last updated October 16, 2026

The short version: you own what you write. You give us permission to store and show it only so EnsembleWriter can work. Pro and school plans renew monthly until you cancel. Don't use the Service to break the law or hurt anyone. The Service comes as is, and our liability is limited.

These terms are an agreement between you and EnsembleWriter ("we", "us") covering your use of EnsembleWriter at ensemblewriter.com and everything that comes with it (the "Service"). By using the Service, or by creating an account, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you use the Service for a school or other organization, you agree on its behalf and confirm you are allowed to.

1. Who can use EnsembleWriter

You must be at least 13 years old. Students under 13 may use the Service only through a school plan, set up by their school, which is responsible for any consent from parents or guardians that its rules or local law require.

2. Your account

Give us an email address you control and keep your password to yourself. You are responsible for what happens under your account. Tell us at support@ensemblewriter.com if you think someone else has used it.

3. Your content

You keep all rights to the scripts, notes, shot lists and other material you create or upload ("your content"). We claim no ownership of it.

So that the Service can work, you give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free permission to host, store, copy, process, display and transmit your content, only as needed to provide the Service to you and to the people you share it with. This permission ends when your content is deleted from the Service, except for copies we must keep by law.

You are responsible for your content and confirm you have the rights to it. Back up anything important: export your scripts regularly.

4. Sharing and collaboration

When you invite collaborators, they can see and edit the projects you share with them. When you create a share link, anyone who has the link can read that script, unless you protect it with a password. You decide who gets access. You can remove collaborators at any time; to turn off a share link, delete the project or email us.

5. Acceptable use

Do not use the Service to:

We may remove content or suspend accounts that break these rules.

6. Plans and payment

Free

The free plan has limits, such as a maximum number of pages per script, shown in the app. We may change free plan limits.

Pro

Pro is billed monthly at the price shown when you subscribe, through our payment processor, Stripe. It renews automatically each month until you cancel. You can cancel at any time from your account; you keep Pro until the end of the period you have paid for. Except where the law requires otherwise, payments are not refundable and we do not give credit for partial months.

School plans

A school plan is billed monthly to the school by card through Stripe. It covers members with the school's email domains. The school's administrators decide who is a member and are responsible for their members' use of the Service. A member removed from a school plan keeps their account and their content and returns to their own plan.

Price changes and taxes

We will give you at least 30 days' notice by email before a price change applies to your subscription. Prices do not include taxes unless stated; you pay any that apply.

7. Features that use outside services

Some features, such as Read Aloud voices, drafting a first pass of a shot list, and cleaning up imported PDFs, send the text they need to a service provider described in our Privacy Policy. What these features produce can contain mistakes: check it before you rely on it. You own what they produce for you, to the extent anyone can.

8. Our property

The Service, including its software, design and the EnsembleWriter name and logo, belongs to us and our licensors. These terms give you the right to use the Service, not to copy, modify or reverse engineer it, except where the law allows. If you send us feedback or ideas, we may use them without owing you anything.

9. Ending your use

You can stop using the Service at any time and ask us to delete your account by emailing support@ensemblewriter.com. We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms, if we must for legal reasons, or if we stop offering the Service. Unless you have broken these terms, we will give you reasonable notice and a chance to export your content first. Sections 3 (the part about your responsibility), 8, 10, 11, 12 and 13 continue after your use ends.

10. Disclaimer

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not promise that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free or that your content will never be lost.

11. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, data or goodwill. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose, or 50 US dollars.

Some places do not allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you.

12. Indemnity

If someone brings a claim against us because of your content or your breach of these terms, you will cover our reasonable costs and losses from that claim, including legal fees.

13. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to its conflict of laws rules. Any dispute relating to the Service will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in New York, New York, and you and we consent to their jurisdiction. Before going to court, please email us so we can try to resolve it. If you are a consumer in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country you live in, and may bring a claim there.

14. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. We will post the new version here with a new date and, for significant changes, email account holders at least 14 days before they take effect. If you keep using the Service after that, you accept the new terms. If you do not, stop using the Service and cancel any subscription.

15. General

These terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about the Service. If part of them cannot be enforced, the rest still applies. Not enforcing a part of them is not a waiver. You may not transfer these terms without our permission; we may transfer them as part of a merger, acquisition or sale of the Service.
